Welcome to the Department of Pharmacology! The Honours year represents a new adventure which is quite different to your undergraduate experience. As an Honours student you will have the have the opportunity to undertake a research project, communicate your findings through seminars and learn to critically evaluate scientific concepts. Your supervisor(s) will be there to guide and advise you along this journey. At the very least, you will need to bring along the following skills: enthusiasm and an enquiring mind, respect and humility, determination and tenacity, a sense of humour and most importantly patience.
With that being said, we are here to support you every step of the way. Our Pharmacology Mentorship Programme is aimed at Honours students and is essentially meant to lend you a helping hand as you navigate the most crucial moments of your career as researchers and budding scientists.
The objective of the Mentorship Programme is to support, engage and empower students. Our goal is to help drive your career forward by helping you grow and develop leadership abilities and build productive relationships leading to a thriving learning environment.
Confidence helps mentees to navigate their way through meaningful conversations, challenges and successes at the University. With the right leadership, a mentee can truly make strides in their career. It is important for you to note that this programme is in no way meant to replace the professional academic services that have been made available to you at UP. Should and when the need arises, we will refer you to faculty advisors, career guidance, financial aid officers, as well as psychologists for the much-needed emotional support during these times.
We wish you all the best for a rewarding and exciting year of research. Looking forward to hearing from you on our platform!
